Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.
An important official stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
